cycas:

Still can’t get over the weirdness of conflating ‘adult’ ‘sexual’ ‘nudity’, ‘pornographic’ and ‘not safe for work’.  These are such different terms.

I have been working in the internet industry since 1996.  All the most disturbing porn I have encountered has been in a work context, and some has not entailed nudity at all.

Before that, I worked in museums.  Museums are often, how shall I put this, full of breasts and penises.  Sometimes they are erect penises!  With cultural importance!

Adult is something that I’d hope everyone who is 18 or older can be, and those who are under 18 and over, say 12, are probably working towards it.

If you’re leaving or cutting back on Tumblr …

silmarillionwritersguild:

Since Tumblr’s announcement that they will be banning much of the NSFW content posted on this site, we’ve seen quite a few newcomers on the SWG. I want to welcome those folks and extend an invitation to join us to anyone looking for a place to share fanworks and talk with other Tolkien fans.

We are a Silmarillion-focused group that specializes in fanfiction and other fanworks about the early legendarium. Founded in 2005, we have always valued civility and community in our spaces. Everyone is welcome. We don’t care if you bought your first Silmarillion back in 1977 or if you watched your first Tolkien film just last week and suddenly can’t learn enough about Middle-earth. We don’t care if you’ve won a Nebula or if the story you post with us is your very first. We don’t care if you love the Fëanorians/Valar/Eöl/Angbang/Túrin or hate them (just as long as you understand that you’ll be sharing space with people who feel passionately the opposite as you and are willing to treat everyone with civility and respect).

The SWG can be found in the following spaces off of Tumblr:

  • Our website and archive, mostly used for posting and commenting on fanfic. (If you join the archive, please do us the favor of putting something Tolkien-related in your bio, as it makes approving new members much easier and faster.) We also have a monthly newsletter, reference library, regular challenges, and special events.
  • Our Dreamwidth community, where we share the same announcements we share here. This space can also be used for posting fanworks, asking questions, and discussing Tolkien.
  • Our Discord server, where we talk daily about Tolkien (and a lot of non-Tolkien too), with channels for beta requests, canon questions, SSPs, recs, and signal boosts. We also gather from time to time for collaborative writing, with other events in the works.
  • Our LiveJournal community, which is much the same as our DW community, only LJ went through the same censorship process Tumblr seems intent on beginning now. This is not a very active space currently and is mostly kept up for historical purposes and sentimental value. However, if folks want to resurrect it–it’s there!

We do have a group etiquette that applies everywhere and mostly comes down to being civil toward others on the group. We don’t deal in wank or hate; we very much believe in writing, drawing, making, squeeing, and celebrating what you love in the Ardaverse. If you can do that, we hope you’ll consider joining us.

it’s so difficult not being able to use milennial humor in a corporate setting. like i made a mistake today and i wanted to tell my supervisor it’s because i suffer from Dumb Bitch Disease, but do you think that would fly?? fuck no. i gotta say shit like, “sorry for the misunderstanding!” i can’t wait till the workforce is made up entirely of millennials and i can say “sorry i drank idiot juice for breakfast this morning” and my coworkers will be like “oh worm.”
