The Silmarillion autumn aesthetic | The Mahtan’s red hair kin
Mahtan, Nerdanel, Maedhros, Amrod, Amras.
I’ll never be over the fact that not only did Tolkien name one of his characters Sexy Redhead, he adjusted his entire conlang around that specific name
Maedhros is just that important.
I’ve used the John Garth book as a reference in a few of my Silmarillion Writers Guild monthly character bios. It’s a good read for anyone interested in Tolkien and/or WWI.
Kurt Vonnegut wrote in 1973: “Armistice Day has become Veterans’ Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans’ Day is not. So I will throw Veterans’ Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don’t want to throw away any sacred things.”

The Silmarillion modern aesthetic | Nerdanel the Wise
In her youth she loved to wander far from the dwellings of the Noldor,
either beside the long shores of the Sea or in the hills; and thus she
and Fëanor had met and were companions in many journeys.

replied to your post “I think I’m going to take the train to the farm this time. I would…”writing on trains is my FAVORITE THING
MINE TOO
Also I’ve just hit a point where I can like, reuse some of the stuff I sketched out last year when I was first doing my little bits of worldbuilding on this thing, and I set up my laptop next to my work computer for a bit this morning to just copy over a scene because I had a feeling I’d be wanting to alter it quite a bit in a way that copy-paste wouldn’t allow for very well, and I was right, my brain spat out a whole different structure for the scene and !!! the character is growing!!! and is much more complex than the pouty brat he was in the first draft, and I liked the pouty brat but he couldn’t carry a whole novel, and now he’s a cynical, heartbroken, social justice warrior type using his privilege as a weapon in a subversive way despite his own personal losses, and it’s so– it’s so much more interesting than it was! and now I want to know how this story goes!
so it’s a big breakthrough and if only I had a few hours to sit in a spot with music on and not have to either be pretending to work or be getting up and down every ten seconds to take care of something or–
anyway! so I’m booking myself that train ticket posthaste.

Wow! Reminds me of the scene of little Turin watching the Elves. “None of the Eldar at that time dwelt in his father’s lands, and once only had he seen them, when King Fingon and many of his lords had ridden through Dor-lómin and passed over the bridge of Nen Lalaith, glittering in silver and white.
